Exfoliating your skin (both on your face and on your body) is something that you should be doing once a week. Scrubbing off those dead skin cells will ensure that your skin is soft, smooth and healthy. Exfoliating your skin is also a great way to eliminate surface dry skin cells, thus bringing out newer, younger looking skin.
I personally do this once a week and it’s become a part of my skin care routine ever since I was old enough to use make-up (probably mid-way through high school). And, since then, from among the dozens of body and face scrubs I’ve used, I’ve learned how to tell a good one from a not so good one.
Today, I’m going to give you my “expert” opinion on a scrub made by one company that has recently made it’s mark on the skin care industry in Asia (specifically the Philippines). They are called Gluta-C and I am going to review their: Intense Whitening Body Scrub.
A Bit of Background
Aside from being promoted by a Philippine actress that was once “morena” (meaning tan), Gluta-C is all the buzz because it contains Vitamin-C and Glutathione, the latter being more in demand in the country. It also features what the company calls Glycostech which is “quick and effective penetration of the skin using patented French technology”.
It is anti-aging, it promises to whiten intensely and it does have a lot of raving reviews, not to mention the price is reasonable.
Price and Packaging
I, too, was caught up in all of the hype. Naturally, because of all the elements mentioned earlier, I got curious. I did not intend to buy the scrub itself but I accidentally came across it while I was shopping for body butter.
When I saw the price, I just had to have it. It cost me around 2.46AUD for a 120gram tub of body scrub. “Not bad a price”, I thought.
I think that the packaging was designed for convenience. Most scrubs I’ve used came in similar containers but this one was not too big and not too small. If you have just a small amount left, you can take that small amount with your two fingers without making a mess or without the scrub going all over the place.
Consistency and Coarseness
When I opened the lid, I was glad to see that the scrub was not runny. It also had just the right coarseness for a body scrub. Some of the scrubs I’ve used for my body were either not coarse enough or very runny making me feel like it was diluted.
The Gluta-C Intense Whitening Scrub was just right so I have to give the company props for that.
Usage and Results
As mentioned at the very beginning of this article, I use this scrub once a week and I’ve been using it for more than a month.
I enjoy using this scrub every time I take a shower because I love the smell. It doesn’t have a specific fruity smell like apple or strawberry but it does smell nice, like cologne or perfume. The scent is not that strong but you’ll be able to enjoy it while you’re in the shower.
It does not last for very long but the smell is relaxing and revitalizing.
For the results, I did not use any camera trick. The lighting may be off on one picture but it does give your skin a certain creaminess as soon as you rinse the scrub off.
Naturally, your skin is going to feel soft and supple after scrubbing but I like that it has a sort of instant effect, though not really noticeable unless you take a really good look at it. As for the intense whitening aspect of it, you cannot really expect just the scrub to intensively whiten your skin. You’d have to use other products along with it.
I’m giving this scrub an 8 out of 10 for its:
- Reasonable price
- Wonderful smell
- Coarseness — just right
- and for the creamy after shower effect
