Popular Hair Trends for 2013

Hair is an essential part of every woman’s look. All women have a go to hairstyle, however many women are looking for something a bit more cutting edge for the 2013 season.

When you hear the term braids, I am sure an image of you as a little girl with pigtails in your hair pops into your head. No, those are not the braids being referenced here. In 2013, braids have taken on a whole new life and have become things of sophistication and fun. Simple styles such as the messy braid or more complex styles such as the dutch braid add a whole new element to your style that can be admired by yourself and others.

Curls aren’t anything new, but they are being worn in two primary ways this season that makes them seem fresh and exciting. First, there is the vintage curl which is very reminiscent of pin-up girl hairstyles. Vintage curl looks convey class and sophistication and are relatively easy to do yourself. Second, there is the wavy curl. This look focuses more on the soft, beach curls than tight structured curls. The wavy curl provides some variation without being too extravagant or over the top. It is a simple way to give your hair some life without doing too much.

There has always been something very intriguing and mystifying about a bang, and nothing has changed. Bangs can be worn in several different ways: long, short, simple, edgy, in front, or to the side. Examining facial features such as shape and cheekbone structure can help you determine what kind of bangs will work for you if you choose to go that route. The great thing is that you are only altering a small portion of your hair. So if you don’t like it you can rest knowing that at least you didn’t make that commitment with your whole head. Sooner than later the bang will grow out and you can try something else that fits you better.

Short Cuts

Gone are the days where super long hair is seen as the only way to go. Now hair trends seem to embrace the very short, very daring haircut for men and women. People are now starting to use their hair as a way to make fashion statements in addition to wardrobe, accessories, and makeup. When a short haircut is worn, the person wearing it makes the statement to others that they are confident which is extremely attractive.

Ombre is a trend in hair coloring where you start with a dark color at the top and you gradually get lighter towards the bottom. Ombre seems to have taken off this year and is being worn by celebrities and non-celebrities alike. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to achieve the look, though it does appear that it would cost a pretty penny to obtain. There are hair kits that can be purchased at stores such as Walmart and Target that offer step by step instructions on how to achieve the look for yourself. Of course, if you don’t trust yourself to do it be sure you don’t overpay to have it done professionally.

Pompadores and Quiffs

Pompadores and quiffs are a unisex hair trend that is also highly popular this year. Miley Cyrus has been seen sporting the look among other starlets in Hollywood. These two styles fall along the same lines of the edgy cut in terms of their daringness to stand out and be different. These looks are not for everyone and because of their drastic nature they should really be considered before you run off to the hair salon. However, if these looks are for you then you should stand proud and embrace them. There is nothing wrong with being different.

Though these looks are the most popular hair trends for 2013, you have to do what feels right for you. If these looks don’t fit your taste, then do what you like. The important thing is that you feel comfortable and look great.
